Peterborough Pride Week: September 20th – 29th, 2024
The Peterborough Community Legal Centre extends best wishes for a happy Pride Week to Peterborough residents. Check out the Peterborough Pride website for local events.
From the Peterborough Pride website:
“Peterborough/Nogojiwanong Pride Week is Friday, September 20th through Sunday, September 29th this year. The theme for this year’s celebration is “Educate. Activate. Celebrate!”
You may recognize this year’s theme – it’s taken from our annual Pride Trans Day of Resiliency, first held in 2015. As the existence of trans and queer people becomes more politicized – we want to uplift this part of our community by educating about all our realities, promoting action and visibility, and celebrating solidarity and strength. Though this theme fits well for the whole community – it is important to highlight its roots and to uplift it and our trans and gender-diverse community as we do so.
EDUCATE.
Educating about each of our realities… there is so much for us all to learn! Lived experiences of those across the 2SLGBTQ+ communities are unique. Ignorance can allow hate to grow. Acceptance and welcoming comes with understanding and empathy.
ACTIVATE.
There remains much for us to fight for and push for change. Trans equality is still not a reality and gets further and further away with today’s political climate… The right to love who we wish, and be who we are, is denied in many countries. Discrimination, hate, and violence against 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals continues to rise.
CELEBRATE!
Let’s celebrate our strength and solidarity as a community! You are loved. We are stronger together.”
