EVENT: RE-IMAGINE JUSTICE FOR SEXUAL HARM: WHY I FOUGHT FOR A CIRCLE, NOT A COURTROOM

The Peterborough Community Legal Centre’s Your Way Forward program and One City Peterborough are co-sponsoring Marlee Liss’ keynote address RE-IMAGINE JUSTICE FOR SEXUAL HARM: WHY I FOUGHT FOR A CIRCLE, NOT A COURTROOM on Thursday, September 17th from 1:00-2:30 at the Peterborough Public Library (345 Aylmer Street). This event is open to anyone working in the fields of restorative justice or sexual-violence prevention. The venue is fully accessible, and captions will be available.

In this talk, Marlee speaks of her own experience: “My personal sexual assault case set precedent in North America after concluding with Restorative Justice through the courts. I fought for my assailant to go to therapy instead of criminal trial and eventually, we met in an 8-hour circle that was transformative to say the least. Since then, I’ve founded Survivors 4 Justice Reform & have supported thousands in re-imagining justice and healing trauma.” 

Marlee Liss is a somatic educator, social worker, author, advocate and lesbian sparkle-loving feminist. As the Founder of the global coalition ‘Survivors 4 Justice Reform’, her work on empathy, healing and re-imagining justice has been featured in Forbes, Huff Post, Buzzfeed and the Mel Robbins Show. As an award-winning speaker, she’s delivered talks for: National Sexual Assault Conference, Vanderbilt University, Action Trauma Summit, Women’s Mental Health Conference at Yale and more. Her story was made into a documentary directed by Kelsey Darragh titled, ‘The Limits of Forgiveness’ and her and her book, ‘If I Had Known Then: A Memoir of Sexual Assault, Hope and My Battle to Re-Imagine Justice’ will be released with Penguin Random House in February 2027.
